St Joseph's & St John the Baptist Catholic Churches

The Catholic Parish of East Brighton

Welcome to St Joseph’s and St John the Baptist! We are a vibrant and welcoming Catholic
community in Brighton, with a vision to form disciples of Jesus Christ, to love others, and to serve
our city. In normal times we have 4 Masses each Sunday, plus one on Saturday evening, and 2 most weekdays. We are also very much present online, with with live Mass every day, daily news, on line groups, and resources for use at home.

We are a community serving each other and the local area – both with practical support and
befriending. If you feel isolated at home, or need practical shopping help or telephone advice, or if you can help
us provide this support, our Lightbulb project can help you for free.

The current situation offers a great opportunity to use time well, and think about our faith and the
big questions of life. Join our online Alpha, a weekly series, with each week focussed on one of the
big questions – with opportunities for input, discussion, and getting to know like minded people in
our community.

Mass is back

We can attend our Masses again starting on Ash Wednesday

new Alpha opportunity

At this strange time why not take the opportunity to build your faith, explore your faith, or learn more about faith, life, and God from home.

We have run two very successful Alphas online, after many in person series, with a mixture of parishioners and people new to our church. We are half way through our third Alpha online AND ARE NOW TAKING NAMES FOR OUR NEXT ONE.

See our Alpha page, or get in touch and we will answer questions and give you full details

An evening with friends

This Wednesday at 8 we start our new hour of social time, as the current restrictions have removed so much of our opportunity to chat and meet.   An hour on Zoom hosted by David Miller. David will ensure that there is an opportunity to talk to each other, and do some fun things together.  Come and meet your friends and make new ones.

There are so many good things to read, watch, or listen to. We have assembled a range of excellent resources that you may find useful, perhaps even more so at this time. We are constantly adding to this, so please keep coming back to this.

Young Adults

We offer loads of opportunities for students and young adults to journey deeper – to explore, discover, make friends, reflect, celebrate, get involved in the life of the church, and make a difference in the local community together.

Lectio Divina

Fridays at 8pm. A time for praver and for preparation for Sunday Mass every week with Fr Aidan, a monk from Worth who has just arrived in the parish

Be a part of our community and stay in touch

We entered the lockdown without a good database of parishioners. We would really want to keep everyone informed about all that is going on – please help us by giving us your contact details. Also please fill in our parish Census 2020 form.

Diocesan Mission - Lent Meetings - Invited

We will be exploring God’s invitation to enter into relationship with Him and what that means for our lives. It will be a wonderful journey of discovery that helps us to know more deeply who we are in the eyes of God and to live authentically as His beloved. There will be challenges – we may have to take a ‘long hard look’ at ourselves – but by the end of the programme we aim to be transformed and empowered to become Spirit filled disciples who rejoice in God’s goodness and want to build His Kingdom here on earth.

 ‍Who can take part?

The short answer is everyone! This exciting free programme is open to people of all ages and backgrounds – everyone is welcome and all are Invited.

A video will be released each Monday in Lent, and then there will be a group opportunity to discuss it online. There will be parish groups on Tuesday evening and Thursday morning, and a Diocese wide meeting on Thursday evening. Sign up for weekly links to the videos, which will also give you links to the diocesan meetings. More information on our parish meetings here as Lent starts.

Stations of the Cross

6:30 pm every Friday in Lent we have Stations of the Cross online.

Although our churches are open again we would still not be able to process around the church for a physical service.

Join us on zoom to take part –  or watch the livestream or recording on youtube
