Building a place of welcome, growth and community

We’re creating a new community hub on Elm Grove: a vibrant, accessible place where people can connect, learn, rest and grow. Open to everyone, the new centre will bring together community activities, support to families, student engagement and local outreach under one roof, creating opportunities for friendship, support, learning and belonging.

A New Home for Community and Faith

The Hub will include:

  • A welcoming coffee lounge for meeting and connecting
  • Flexible rooms for study, meetings and wellbeing activities
  • A hall for events and gatherings
  • A quiet space for prayer and reflection
  • Facilities designed for children, families, students and young adults

Activities will include parent and toddler groups, after-school and holiday clubs, safe space for teenagers, a student and young adult programme, community meals and celebrations, wellbeing activities, volunteering, and opportunities for faith exploration and leadership development.

Designed with Care for People and Planet

The building has been planned with accessibility and sustainability at its heart, featuring renewable energy systems, support for biodiversity, and fully accessible, family-friendly facilities.

Why Galilee?

The Galilee Community Hub takes its name from the region where Jesus spent much of his life and ministry. It symbolises a place of friendship, healing, learning and new beginnings, where people from different backgrounds are welcomed together into community. And like Brighton, Galilee is by the water. The Hub’s name reflects our vision: to create a place where everyone is welcome, relationships can flourish, and people can discover new meaning and purpose in their lives. 

Building on Our History

The site has served local people since 1879, first as a school and later as a parish hall. This redevelopment builds on that legacy, creating a modern space where people can gather, learn, support one another and contribute to the life of our city.

Shaping the Future Together

As we prepare to open, we’re listening to local people and organisations to help shape future activities and services. From family groups and student gatherings to wellbeing, learning and hospitality initiatives, we want the Hub to respond to the needs and aspirations of the community.
